My partner and I were in a very serious accident that left me in the hospital’s ICU for several months. Shortly after, we met Jennifer. She was both compassionate and professional from our first meeting. It was reassuring to have her expertise as we proceeded with our accident claim. Following my partner’s tragic accident the following year, Jennifer continued to be supportive. I was happy to receive a great settlement in compensation for my injuries, and would not hesitate to recommend Jennifer to others in a similar situation. Jennifer’s support and guidance through this traumatic life experience made a world of difference.
I was extremely impressed with Jennifer’s work, organization skills and attention to detail. I love the way she works. She was a gift from God to us – an angel who came to our defense. She is unique and an inspiration. She helped our family out tremendously, and not just in relation to money she obtained for us (settling our case).
Jennifer was very professional and worked hard on my case. She took my over my file from a previous lawyer, and had limited time to sort everything out. She did not give up on my case, and moreover, did an excellent job! I was really fascinated by the outcome, and moreover, overwhelmed when I heard the final settlement. I want to thank Jennifer for her determination, analytical skills, and patience during the years she worked with me, and during the pre-trial, when she negotiated the final settlement. I am very grateful to have met Jennifer and to have her as my lawyer. I cannot imagine finding anyone better. I would not hesitate to recommend Jennifer to anyone in need of a sound, and highly professional lawyer.
If your injuries are affecting your work, daily life, or recovery, you should absolutely speak with a lawyer as early as possible. This is especially true for serious injuries such as brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, fractures, and broken bones, where the long-term consequences may not be fully apparent in the early weeks. Insurers often move quickly to limit their exposure to high-value claims, making early legal involvement critical. A lawyer can help you protect deadlines, gather the right medical documentation, and pursue fair compensation while you focus on healing.
Hoffman Law is based in Toronto and serves clients across all of Ontario, including Sudbury, Sault Ste Marie, Kitchener, Waterloo, Ottawa, St. Catherine’s, and the Niagara Region as well as the Greater Toronto Area, including Mississauga, Brampton, Scarborough, and North York, and throughout Ontario. We handle motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, accident benefits, LTD denials, dog bites and life insurance disputes.
After a car accident, focus on safety and documentation, then protect your claim. Get medical attention promptly, even if symptoms seem minor, report the accident to your insurer, and keep records of all treatment, expenses, and time off work.
See our motor vehicle accidents page for a full breakdown of your rights and next steps.
Most personal injury claims in Ontario are subject to a two-year limitation period from the date you knew or ought to have known about your injury and its cause. However, shorter notice deadlines can apply, particularly for slip and fall cases on municipal property and/or private property and for accident benefits. Missing a deadline can seriously affect your ability to claim compensation.
Accident benefits claims have their own, much shorter deadlines. You generally must notify your insurer within 7 days of the accident, and once your insurer sends the application package, you have 30 days to submit the completed OCF-1 form. Missing these early deadlines does not automatically disqualify you, but a reasonable explanation is required, so it is best not to rely on that exception.
If you are unsure what deadlines apply to your situation, contact Hoffman Law as soon as possible.
A contingency fee means legal fees are paid as a percentage of the amount recovered, not billed hourly. This makes it possible to access legal representation without paying anything upfront. Your agreement should clearly explain the percentage, how case expenses (disbursements) are handled, and what applies if the case settles early or goes to trial.
Hoffman Law explains fees transparently before you commit. Read our full fee explanation.
The timeline depends on the severity of your injuries and the complexity of the case. Many claims resolve within months, while serious injury claims can take longer, particularly where your long-term prognosis is still developing. Claims involving traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, or multiple fractures often require more time because the full extent of the disability, future care needs, and loss of earning capacity must be properly established before settling. Insurers typically want clear medical evidence of your recovery outlook before agreeing to a full and final settlement. Hoffman Law focuses on moving claims forward efficiently without settling for less than your injuries are worth.
For most injury claims involving insurance disputes, denied benefits, or serious injuries, yes. This is particularly true for catastrophic or severe injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, and serious fractures or broken bones, where the financial and personal stakes are highest and insurers are most likely to contest the value of a claim. A lawyer can identify compensation you may not know you are entitled to, prevent early mistakes that limit your claim, and handle insurer pressure so you can focus on recovery. Most personal injury lawyers in Ontario work on contingency, meaning there is no upfront cost and no legal fee unless you recover compensation.
